On the road to womanhood in the ’70s, Vivian is encountering two big bumps; her strangely nomadic family — always on the move, yet desperate to stay in the Beverly Hills school district — and her blossoming sexuality. Add Viv’s vivacious visiting cousin to the mix, and you’ve got an explosive coming-of-age story that proves you don’t have to be rich to have first-class fun.

Going Ape! on VHS. Starring Tony Danza, Jessica Walter, Stacey Nelkin, Danny DeVito, Frank Sivero. Directed by Jeremy Joe Kronsberg. 1981.

From the box:

Eccentric circus owner Max Sabatini’s legacy to his only son, Foster, includes $5 million, with a stipulation: Foster (Tony Danza) must keep Max’s three prized orangutans for at least five years. With the apes comes high-wire artist Lazlo (Danny DeVito). The four additions are too much for Foster’s live-in girlfriend (Stacey Nelkin) whose mother (Jessica Walter) encourages her to move out. Moving in is the Zoological Society, which stands to inherit if Foster fails with the apes. To ensure their success, the society dispatches mobsters to wreak havoc. Comic zaniness ensues as everyone really goes “ape.”
